The Fist of Goodness

The Fine Five - August 11, 2013
(1) Today was the first time in about two weeks that I took a day off from power walking. My body basically told me, "you deserve a break today." Luckily, it didn't suggest McDonald's as a way of achieving this option. And even if it had, I would have ignored that last portion of the conversation.
(2) Wait ... Mariano Rivera blew another save opportunity for the Yankees? Gave up home runs to Detroit Tigers hitters Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in the ninth? Damn. In the three-game series, the Tigers scored four runs in two innings off Rivera, with five extra-base hits (three homers, two doubles). For comparison, this was as many runs and extra-base hits as they had against him in his previous 37 appearances against Detroit, dating back to 1999.
(3) Yeah, I've been watching True Blood this series. But I'm not nearly as invested in the show as I was the past few years. I can only take so much surrealism before my brain checks out. But tonight's episode ROCKED MY DIRTY SOCKS! Only one more episode for this season (the sixth) after tonight; looking forward to see how they wrap this up.
(4) Cast my official coaches ballot for the September-October Public Forum Debate topics and the 2013-14 Lincoln Douglas Debate topics. Now we wait and see.
FYI, the two PFD options are: {a} Unilateral military force by the United States is justified to prevent nuclear proliferation; or {b} Proliferation of nuclear weapons is a greater threat to the United States than proliferation of biological and chemical weapons.
There were 10 LD choices which needed to be ranked: {a} A just society ought to presume consent for organ procurement from the deceased; {b} A progressive income tax is more just than a flat income tax; {c} Compulsory inclusion of non-felons' DNA in any government database is just; {d} Hypersexualized representations by the media are immoral; {e} In the United States criminal justice system, truth-seeking ought to take precedence over attorney-client privilege; {f} In the United States, the jurisdiction of a federally recognized tribal court ought to extend throughout the borders of the tribe's reservation; {g} Placing political conditions on humanitarian aid to foreign countries is unjust; {h} The atomic bombing of Hiroshima was immoral; {i} The United States ought to prioritize the pursuit of national security objectives above the digital privacy of its citizens; and {j} Developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction when the two are in conflict.
(5) The humor website for Cracked magazine is one of the few daily releases I have that brings a smile to my face on a continual basis. Today was no different, as I happened upon a wonderful article discussing five horribly failed attempts at heroism by regular folks (i.e., individuals who don't wear capes regularly). Sadly missing from the article, though, was any reference to superhero The Fist of Goodness:
