The Fine Five - August 15, 2013

(1) The honeymoon is over; made the first payment on the 2009 Toyota Prius today.

(2) Had 17 high school and middle school debate coaches in attendance at this morning's district pre-school meeting, including several brand-spanking-new coaches of existing teams and brand-spanking-new coaches of new teams.

(3) The September/October debate topics were announced about 8:30 a.m.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate 2013 September/October Topic - Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.

Public Forum Debate 2013 September/October Topic - Resolved: Unilateral military force by the United States is justified to prevent nuclear proliferation.

(4) Received a "thank you" card from Aaron and Kim Jancaitis Martinak, who were in West Palm Beach a month ago on vacation from Virginia. It was a ton of fun to hit area venues like the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, the Old Key Lime House, and the Palm Beach Kennel Club, where we collectively lost about two weeks' worth of wages in one night. (We're all teachers, so that came out to maybe $50 between the three of us.)

(5) Debate class stats (as of this morning): 36 in the novice class, 24 in the varsity class, 20-25 as after school extracurricular competitors. In other words, operation normal.
